It was with particular pleasure that I accepted the invitation to address the 2nd International Investment Exhibition BEST INVEST, hosted in Cyprus by VESTNIK KIPRA. I wish to welcome you all here today, especially those who have travelled from abroad to our island. Cyprus, being in the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean, boasts a privileged position in the area, at the crossroads of three continents. A position, due to which, we have historically had our share of both benefits and misfortunes. Nevertheless, we have always managed to emerge as a significant commercial and economic center with extremely positive traits for prospective investors.
I would like to thank the organisers for choosing Cyprus to hold this prestigious exhibition and conference of BEST INVEST, which will feature twenty (exhibition stands of) local companies, promoting over 40 investment projects, ranging from property, tourism, IT, energy and shipping, to mention but a few, to almost 200 prominent businesses and investors, both from Cyprus and abroad. I anticipate that knowledge and information exchanged during the event will be invaluable to local businesses, consultants and foreign investors alike.
Cyprus has re-entered the arena of welcoming international investments with renewed dynamic potential. This is reflected in the exhibition and the Investment Project Site Visits, showcasing the opportunities and advantages Cyprus offers, as an international and regional business hub.
Moreover, the Conference itself will focus on issues that will provide a balanced and comprehensive assessment of the Cyprus economy and investment opportunities, such as the stable growth of the Cyprus economy following the international financial crisis, the impact of international tax developments, Cyprus trusts and the new liquidity paradigm, measures to protect foreign investments, realistic evaluation of risks versus opportunities in Cyprus and many more challenging topics.
In this context, allow me to mention that, in 2015-2016, more investors looked for opportunities in Cyprus, not only in property development as before, but also in new technologies and forex; the Cyprus Government is now working on creating a Cyprus Technological Park for the development of new scientific and research projects, aiming at attracting more international companies in the field.
The Cyprus House of Representatives supports these initiatives through legislation, parliamentary control, participation in missions abroad and by welcoming visitors, so as to encourage investments and opportunities for local and foreign business in our country. Let me once again congratulate the organisers, the VESTNIK KIPRA Group and the SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS Magazine Team, who worked tirelessly under the able guidance of Mrs Natalia Kardash to make this investment exhibition a truly productive endeavor. I declare this 2nd Exhibition and Conference open and wish you every success and indeed fruitful exchanges.
