Open call for musicians for a bicommunal festival at the Cyprus divide

An open call for the application process for bands interested in participating in the inter-communal music festival Unity Fest to take place in the moat area of the Ledra Palace Hotel on June 27, is addressed by the organisers.

Unity Fest , according to a press release aims to bring together the Cypriot youth across the divide, under the power of music and hope, to work for a culture of peace in Cyprus overcoming fears and prejudices.

Gadjo Dilo and Fikri Karayel will be the guest stars at the Festival.

The interested bands are asked to fill the application form on and send a video demo consisting of three songs (15 minutes maximum) to [email protected]

Selected bands will win a Euros 200 voucher for music purchases, 30% discount on music purchases up to Euros 500, two hours of free band practice for Unity Fest in a studio in Nicosia and promotional support from Unity Fest and a place on the Festivals poster.

Deadline for applications is Monday, 18th of May 23:59 GMT +2.

Unity Fest, according to the press release, is co-organised by the Bi-communal Peace Initiative United Cyprus, the European Parliament Information Office and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus. It is supported by the Home for Cooperation, the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, the State Department of the United States, the Embassy of Sweden and the Famagusta Youth Center (MAGEM).

Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. UN-backed talks are underway with the aim to reunite the island under a federal roof.
