Nothing is over, diplomatic efforts continue, Energy Minister says

Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has said that as far as the effort of Italian ENI to explore hydrocarbons within block 3 of Cyprus’ EEZ is concerned, nothing is over but that diplomatic efforts are still ongoing.

He was replying to journalists’ questions after a meeting Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades had with all parliamentary party leaders, on Wednesday, during which he was also present which focussed on events in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone.

Drillship Saipem 12000, commissioned by Italian energy company ENI, was halted on the 9th of February by Turkish warships en route to a location within block 3 of Cyprus EEZ.

Replying to a question whether ENI’s effort is over he replied that no, nothing is over, diplomatic efforts continue.

Diplomatic efforts will continue as long as is possible, he said, adding that this concerns the company and the governments involved.

Diplomatic steps continue towards all directions and at all levels, he reiterated replying to another question.
