Cypriots who have contacted the Embassy in Israel so far did not report being attacked or injured, said the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Theodoros Gkotsis.
Speaking to CNA in light of developments in Israel, where Hamas launched a rocket attack from Gaza on Saturday morning, Gkotsis said that, at the moment, the government prioritizes the safety of five patients, along with their companions, who have been sent for treatment in Israel, by the Republic of Cyprus. Gkotsis also noted that there is no need for chartered flights back to Cyprus, as the Ben Gurion airport in Israel is fully operating.
He added that the government is monitoring the situation and encouraged Cypriot citizens to contact the mobile phones of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at +357 97 775998 and+972 54-8608603, in case of an emergency.
An announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the security situation in Israel, advises all Cypriot citizens to follow closely the guidance of the country’s authorities and information in the international and local media, avoid unnecessary movements and apply maximum security measures.
Also, Cypriot citizens are advised to register, if they wish to do so, to the online registration platform for Cypriots abroad Connect2CY.
In case of an emergency, Cypriot citizens are requested to contact, during working days and hours (08:30-15:00, Monday-Friday), the Consular Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at +357 22 651113, and the National Crisis Management Centre of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs at +357 22 801000, +357 22 651295.
Outside working hours, Cypriot citizens should contact +972 54-8608603 and +357 97 775998.
