Nicosia is examining an Israeli request to build a port in Cyprus to send goods to Gaza

There is no agreement over the construction of a port in Cyprus, to send, under Israeli control, goods to the Gaza Strip, but there is a request which is being considered, said Klelia Vasiliou, the Deputy Government Spokesperson.

Vasiliou outlined this position after the conclusion of a Cabinet meeting, at the Presidential Palace, in Nicosia, when invited to comment on a press report that appeared today in the local press.

According to the daily newspaper Phileleftheros, Israeli media cited sources close the Defence Minister of Israel, Avigdor Lieberman, saying that the two countries agreed last week to construct a small port/ dock in Cyprus as a means to end the blockade of Gaza.

Lieberman was in Cyprus last week to take part in a trilateral meeting with his Cypriot and Greek counterparts.

There is no agreement over this particular matter Vasiliou said, she noted however that there is a relevant request, which is being considered.
