Nicosia centre empty as people respond to measures due to coronavirus outbreak

The centre of Nicosia was empty on Sunday as the government’s appeal for people to stay home in the coronavirus pandemic is working.

The Municipal Park, flooded on Sundays and during holidays, with mostly locals and also foreign workers who are on their day off, looked deserted. Many workers were not allowed their day off in an effort to remain home. The outdoor markets they usually hold on Sundays in open areas did not take place.

Few people were at the bus stop at Solomou Square, the square at the intersection of Rigenis Street and Omirou Avenue in central Nicosia, Cyprus, which locates the city`s central bus station. Bus drivers wore masks.

Foreigners wearing surgical masks were the only ones frequenting Freedom Square while Greek soldiers, members of Greek Armed Forces in Cyprus, were the main customers at cafeterias.
