Nicosia appreciates Portugal’s support over a Cyprus settlement, Minister of Agriculture Nicos Kouyialis said on Friday. He added that Cyprus is determined to work further for the advancement of bilateral and international cooperation.
Kouyialis was speaking during a reception, in Nicosia, hosted by Portugal’s Ambassador on the occasion of the National Day of Portugal, celebrated on June 10.
Cyprus highly appreciates the fact that Portugal has historically been a firm supporter of a fair and lasting settlement to the Cyprus problem that would allow for the reunification of the island said Kouyialis, according to a Ministry announcement.
He added that a Cyprus settlement is of great importance not only for the island itself but also for the stability of the region as a whole.
The Minister also underlined the excellent relations between the Republic of Cyprus and Portugal based on strong bonds of friendship, mutual support and understanding.
Cyprus and Portugal enjoy a high level of cooperation and mutual support at the bilateral and multilateral levels, as well as in the framework of the European Union, Kouyialis noted.
He thanked finally Ambassador Joao Perestrello for his persistent work in further developing the relations between the two countries.
