New Cyprus High Commissioner to Mauritius presents credentials

The Republic’s new High Commissioner to the Republic of Mauritius, stationed in Pretoria, Mr Yiannis Iacovou, presented, on 7 December 2016, his credentials to the President of that country, Ms Ameenah Gurib-Fakim.

During the credentials’ ceremony, the High Commissioner conveyed President Anastasiades’ greetings along with his wishes for progress and prosperity of the people of Mauritius.

In the framework of a separate meeting, High Commissioner Iacovou and President Gurib-Fakim discussed ways to further reinforce bilateral ties in sectors of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on sectors in which Cyprus could contribute based on its expertise.

Cyprus’ High Commissioner also referred to the present phase of the negotiations for the resolution of the Cyprus problem, expressing gratitude for Mauritius’ steadfast position vis-A�-vis Cyprus, in favour of a settlement within the framework of the UN Security Council resolutions, as well as for its support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus.
