National Guard is changing, Minister of Defence says

The Cyprus National Guard is changing and is being modernized, Minister of Defence Christoforos Fokaides has said.

The Minister, who visited on Monday the army training camp (KEN) in the coastal town of Pafos on the occasion of the conscripts of 2017B’, said that the National Guard is being transformed into a modern army.

Addressing the conscripts, he said “we welcome you today to a new National Guard, which is changing and is being modernized, upgraded and transformed into a modern army based on professionalism.”

He also referred to the fourteen new programmes set in place, which aim to make the time spent for military service as productive and as useful as possible and enable the acquisition of skills.

Some of those programmes include distance learning, youth entrepreneurship programmes, sports, martial arts training, First Aid training and counselling programmes for academic guidance.
