Myanmar supports efforts for a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, Ambassador says

The Ambassador of Myanmar to Cyprus, stationed in Tel Aviv, Maung Maung Lynn has expressed the support of his country to the efforts made by the Government of Cyprus for reaching a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, based on International law, which will reunify the island and its people.

Presenting his credentials to President Anastasiades during a formal ceremony held today at the Presidential Palace, the Ambassador said that Myanmar has always enjoyed friendly relations with Cyprus since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in July 1985.

He assured the President that during his tenure, he will endeavour to the best of his ability to further promote the bonds of friendship, understanding and mutual cooperation between the two countries.

He also convey to President Anastasiades the best wishes of the President of MyanmarU Htin Kyaw for his personal well-being and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Cyprus.

Receiving the credentials, President Anastasiades stressed that his appointment as the first Ambassador of Myanmar to Cyprus is a significant step in our bilateral relations, and signals the start of a new era in our bilateral relations.

Myanmar has made tremendous progress as regards democratization, safeguarding human rights and upholding the rule of law. The path has not been easy. However, combination of the people’s perseverance, international pressure, but above all, the exemplary and courageous stance and leadership of Mrs Aung San Suu Kyi, brought the change that the people of Myanmar deserved, President said.

He went on to say that his accreditation arrives at a critical juncture whereby Myanmar is working to ensure that ethnic conflict is over, reaffirming its commitment and determination to move further towards democratization. It is a long and tortuous process, with many twists and obstacles, which need to be negotiated and overcome. But the process must continue.

He finally said addressing the Ambassador, your arrival in Cyprus constitutes an eventful occasion, the first step in enhancing our bilateral relationship, for the mutual benefit of our peoples. Cyprus, as a member of the EU also stands ready to assist in furthering EU � Myanmar relations � the signing of an Investment Agreement between EU and Myanmar will definitely open a new chapter in this relationship.
