Morning meetings in Crans Montana postponed, SG Envoy to meet with all parties

The morning sessions of the Cyprus talks in Crans Montana, Switzerland have been postponed at the request of the two leaders, President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

The UN have briefed the press that the leaders requested time for consultations and negotiations. UNSG Special Envoy Espen Barth Eide will hold meetings with all parties involved and the guarantor powers. It is expected that discussions on both negotiating tables will resume in the afternoon.

Later during the day, there will be an official announcement at the UN Headquarters in NYC on SG Antonio Guterres’ return to the resort. Guterres is expected to arrive in Crans Montana in the early hours of Thursday.

UN-facilitated peace talks began in Crans Montana last Wednesday to help find a negotiated settlement that would reunify Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
