Minister of Agriculture to participate in EU Environment Council

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr Nicos Kouyialis, departed today, 29 September 2016, for Brussels where he will participate tomorrow in the Council of Environment Ministers of the EU.

The Council will discuss the ratification of the Paris Agreement, the global agreement on climate change. EU Ministers are expected to agree on the EU conclusion of the Paris Agreement. This would allow the Council, after the consent of the European Parliament, to adopt a Council decision for the EU to ratify the deal in October. This could bring about the entry into force of the agreement.

The Council is also expected to adopt conclusions on the preparations for the upcoming UN climate change conference to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, from 7 to 18 November 2016, COP22.

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment will return to Cyprus on 1 October.
