Minister of Agriculture holds a meeting with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, in Brussels

At a meeting held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr Nicos Kouyialis, held an exchange of views with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Phil Hogan, on a number of issues, inter alia, EU trade agreements with third countries, the situation of the agricultural sector in Europe, issues related to the Cypriot agriculture and the registration of halloumi as a Protected Designation of Origin and its inclusion in the European Union’s list.

During the meeting, Commissioner Hogan briefed Minister Kouyialis on EU decision to provide a sum of 7,2 million euro as financial aid to Cyprus to address the catastrophic effects of forest fires in Solea region and the drought that hit Cyprus in 2016. For this purpose, Cyprus received a sum of 720 thousand euro last November.

According to Commissioner Hogan, the related EU decision will be published in the course of the day.
