Messages of solidarity the best proof of bilateral relations level, French Ambassador tells CNA

Ambassador of France to Cyprus, Rene Troccaz, has told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the hundreds of messages of solidarity which the Embassy of France in Nicosia has received from politicians and other citizens in Cyprus, after the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, in Paris, constitute the best indication and proof of the reality regarding the level of bilateral relations between France and Cyprus.

We have received hundreds of messages of solidarity from President Anastasiades, other politicians and ordinary citizens, and they are really very touching, Troccaz noted, expressing gratitude and thanking the Cypriot authorities, institutions and citizens for expressing their solidarity with his country.

He went on to say that apart from what is legitimately being said about the quality of bilateral relations between France and Cyprus, this is an indication of this reality, and the human dimension of these relations. I do not see any other better indication and proof of this reality, the French Ambassador said.

Troccaz referred to the sorrow that yesterday’s tragic event has caused and added: Now we will work, as the French President himself has said, to rebuild the church, the monument, during the coming years. This is not something that will take place in a couple of weeks. We need to find resources, funding, certain efforts are being made. Generous donors have already announced that they will give 300 million euros which is a considerable amount of money, he noted.

Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, has expressed his deep sorrow about the fire at the historic church of Notre Dame in Paris. Anastasiades wrote in his personal account on Twitter that Notre Dame is a cultural heritage monument of global significance, conveying his sympathy and solidarity with France and its President Emmanuel Macron.
