Meloni voices solidarity with Calderoli after death threats

Premier Giorgia Meloni on Monday voiced solidarity with Regional Affairs and Autonomy MInister Roberto Calderoli after he received death threats over allegedly ‘killing’ the south of Italy with his policies.

Calderoli said earlier Monday he had received a letter saying “if you don’t stop with your policy of genocide towards the south, we will kill you with our fire power. We are the mafia, it doesn’t cost us a thing to kill you”.

Calderoli is pushing ‘differentiated autonomy’ for Italy’s 20 regions, a policy which critics say will widen the north-south gap.

Meloni said: “I wish to express all my solidarity and that of the government to Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies Roberto Calderoli for the death threats (he has) received.

“An ignoble act to be condemned with absolute firmness. Onward, together, with out heads held high”.
