“Meet Nicosia. Meet Culture” campaign launched

Under the slogan Meet Nicosia. Meet Culture a campaign promoting Nicosia as an ideal cultural destination was launched here on Tuesday, by the Nicosia Tourist Development and Promotion Company.

The campaign aims to raise the public’s awareness on the museums, archaeological sites and art galleries in Nicosia to attract visitors.

Addressing a press conference marking the campaign’s launch,Nicosia Tourist Development and Promotion Company’s President Elena Tanou said that only a small portion of tourists arriving in Cyprus visit Nicosia, as their majority come to the island to enjoy the sun and the sea.

Given this fact, she added, we decided to focus on a very key characteristic of Nicosia, that is to say its rich culture.

By showcasing the capital’s culture, we will attract more visitors to the Nicosia city and district but we will also motivate locals to get to know their capital better, she added.

The campaign focuses on three main categories; museums, cultural centres such as art galleries and monuments. It will promote a total of 51 spots of culture in the capital.

A pocket guide for these spots has been published and will be available in all the museums and cultural spaces in Nicosia and all its hotels, while an effort is being made to make it available in the Larnaka and Pafos airports, Tanou said.

The campaign will also run on the Internet. More information on Nicosias cultural sights here.
