Man City’s Haaland wins both player of season, young player of season awards in England

Champion team Manchester City’s Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland on Saturday won both the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards in the English Premier League. “Erling Haaland is your EA SPORTS Player of the Season,” the Premier League said on Twitter, adding: “Your Hublot Young Player of the Season is Erling Haaland.” The 22-year-old forward said that he is “honored” to be the first person in Premier League history to win both awards in the same season, and thanked those who voted for him. In his first Premier League season, Haaland, who left Germany’s Borussia Dortmund for Manchester City last summer, scored 36 goals in 35 appearances for Manchester City, and helped them be crowned the English champions on May 20. In early May, Haaland set the record for the most goals in a single English Premier League season with 35, overtaking the league’s legendary forwards Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who scored 34 goals each. Cole and Shearer have both long since retired, in 2008 and 2006, respectively. Haaland, who also plays for Norway, has a contract with Man City through 2027.
