Kouyialis calls for EU wide crisis mechanism to secure farmers income and Agriculture viability

Cypriot Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nikolaos Kouyialis called today for the creation of an EU – Wide crisis mechanism that will support the income of farmers in every corner of Europe in case of any kind of crisis in the sector and at the same time secure the viability of the industry.

Minister Kouyialis made this call arriving at the EU 28 Agriculture Council of Ministers in Luxemburg, in the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy reform.

“Today at the Council meeting we will discuss a very important issue, the omnipass regulation that is related to the CAP reform. It is our obligation as European Ministers to provide simpler and more effective common agricultural policy to our farmers and this is our last chance to achieve it, since Brexit negotiations will make it more complicated”, he said as he entered the Council venue.

The Minister stressed that “for Cyprus the most important issue is the establishment of a mechanism that will be able to intervene effectively during any kind of crisis, local regional or Pan- European in order to support the income of our farmers and and to secure the viability of the agricultural sector at every corner of Europe”.
