Kasoulides participates in la Francophonie Ministerial Conference

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides participated in the 34th Ministerial Conference of the International Organisation of la Francophonie, during which the participants exchanged views on current international political issues and strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Mali and in Egypt, as well as the serious human rights violations in Libya.

During the Conference, which took place in Paris on November 25 and 26, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 84 members, associate members and observers of the international organisation focused on the theme of the Conference, which was Blue economy, green economy – new drivers for wealth creation, social inclusion and sustainable development.

In his intervention, Kasoulides inter alia referred to the national maritime strategy of Cyprus, as well as efforts towards building a green economy which combines economic development with sustainability and the preservation and protection of the environment, and pointed out the progress achieved by Cyprus in reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

He also said that, as a country which has come under threat merely for seeking to enjoy its sovereign rights to fully exploit its natural resources, Cyprus strongly supports the ratification and implementation of international and regional legal instruments related to the law of the sea.

He also underlined that Cyprus is devoted to the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, especially with the participation of young people.
