Justice Minister pledges support to EU Africa development and counter migration pacts

Cyprus’ Minister of Justice and Public Order Ionas Nicolaou haspledged, during the Justice and Home affairs Council in Luxembourg, the support of Cyprus in relation to the implementation of investment and financial assistance pacts with African countries, totaling 44 billion, as proposed by the European Commission and announced on September 14th by Commission President Jean Claude Juncker.

Cyprus agrees, he said, that the EU concludes investment agreements with those countries that need EU help to improve the socio-economic infrastructure in a way that will lead, in due time, to their development, and to halting the imminent immigration towards Europe.

The Minister stressed that Cyprus would like in the near future the expansion of these pacts, also to Asian countries such as Pakistan and Iran, due to the high migratory pressure towards the EU
