Juncker says that this is the last chance for the reunification process

President of the European Commission tells CNA this it the last chance for the procedure for the reunification of Cyprus, vouching that I will do everything to be useful.

J.C.Juncker clarified that I am always ready to take the plane when it comes to be useful to Cyprus or to Greece. This time I couldn’t take the plane because I had to be in Tallinn. That is the reason I was not in Crans Montana. I hope that this talks will produce some progress, the first round of talks we had on this format was not that promising, he stated.

I have not been debriefed on what happened the day before and yesterday, because I was on the plane not to Switzerland but to Berlin and to Tallinn, he explained.

I said that this is the last chance for the reunification process of Cyprus and I will do everything to be helpful and supportive in the process, reiterated the President of the European Commission.

The President answered to a question by CNA during the Press Conference Marking the inauguration of the six months Estonian Rotating EU Presidency. CNA recalled and an earlier statement he made in Malta that he is always ready to take the plane when it comes to peace and asked for the EU position on the securities and guarantees chapter.

Prime Minister Juri Ratas, on behalf of the Presidency added:

if I may, a few words, even if the question was not directed to me, I personally have met on Cyprus bilaterally the relevant people and as an Estonian I know how complicated this issue is. I want to say that Cyprus is a strong EU member state and it is our responsibility to find the best possible solution and as President of the Council of the EU I will raise this issue of Turkey outside the EU as well.
