Jeffrey Sachs to visit Cyprus to discuss with President Anastasiades his initiative on climate change

Jeffrey Sachs, the UN Secretary-General’s Adviser on the Sustainable Development Goals, is expected to visit Cyprus to promote the international initiative that the Republic of Cyprus will undertake on climate change.

A written statement by Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said that following the initiative announced by the President of the Republic at the international conference on climate change organised by the Cyprus Institute, Nicos Anastasiades contacted Sachs, a world-renowned professor of economics, leader in sustainable development.

Based on the special interest in the region, Sachs discussed with the President the proposal that Anastasiades has already submitted for Cyprus to undertake an active role in coordinating efforts to handle climate change. This role will be promoted in the framework of regional cooperation relations that are developing.

Sachs, has accepted the President’s proposal and will visit Cyprus early 2019.
