Japan to host best Olympic Games in history, says Ambassador Nakatsugawa

Japan’s ambition is to host the best Olympic Games in history, said the country’s Ambassador to Cyprus Shinichi Nakatsugawa.

According to a Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) announcement, Ambassador Nakatsugawa met with COC President Dinos Michaelides at the Olympic Hall, in Nicosia, last Friday and discussed mainly the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo.

It is added that the Ambassador informed the COC President about the Host Town Initiative, where a town in Japan will adopt a county participating in the Olympics, in a bid to exchange knowledge between the two countries.

Michaelides praised the move, as an excellent initiative to promote Cyprus in Japan and said he would raise it with the competent authorities.

The President of COC informed Nakatsugawa about the Committee’s cultural, social and athletic mission and outlined Cyprus’ goals in the Tokyo Games.

The two sides also discussed a possible cooperation between COC and the Embassy of Japan in Cyprus, laying emphasis on exchanges involving athletes and other joint programs.

The meeting was also attended by COC Secretary-General Chralambos Lottas and Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan Mitsuhiko Shinomiya.
