?inister of the Interior, Constantinos Petridis on Thurdsay expressed his concerns on the increased and systematic migration flows from Turkey, at a meeting he had with Commissioner for Immigration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.

The Minister met Commissioner Avramopoulos on the sidelines of the Council of Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) in Brussels. Petrides asked the Commissioner “to take into account the disproportionate pressures faced by first-line countries such as Cyprus”.

Dimitris Avramopoulos accepted the invitation of the Minister of Interior to visit Cyprus in January, for further discussion of the issue and at bilateral level.

Minister Petrides, participated earlier in the Justice and Home affairs Council, where progress was presented on the revision of the Common European Asylum System related to the procedures for examining applications for international protection, “a policy that is the mainstay of efforts to manage the migration crisis and migration flows”, as noted.
