Inflation slowed to 7.1% in January 2023

The annual rate of inflation in January 2023 was 7.1%, continuing the deceleration path for the third consecutive month.

According to the data published on Friday by the Statistical Service, the Consumer Price Index in January 2023 decreased by 1.42 points and reached 112.01 points compared to 113.43 points in December 2022. The annual rate of inflation was set at 7.1% from 7.9% in December 2022.

As regards the economic origin, the largest changes when compared to the index of January 2022 were recorded in Electricity with an increase of 35.6% and in Industrial goods (excl. petroleum products) with 8.3%. In comparison to the index of the previous month, the largest change was monitored in Petroleum products, which decreased by 5.5%.

Compared to January 2022, the largest changes were monitored in the categories Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, recording an increase of 17.3% and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages with 10.8%.

In comparison to the CPI of the previous month, the largest change was noted in Clothing and Footwear, which dropped by 12.5%.

Compared to the Index of January 2022, the categories Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels with 2.34 and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages with 2.11 had the largest effect on the change of the CPI.

The largest negative effect was by the categories Clothing and Footwear with -0.97 and Transport with -0.73.
