House to host APA Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development meeting

The House of Representatives will be hosting the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), to be held from June 25 to 28, in Pissouri, Limassol.

According to a press release, this is the first time that the APA Committee will be meeting in Cyprus.

President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris will open the meeting on June 26. MP Nicos Tornaritis, as President of the Committee and Vice-President of the APA, will chair the working sessions and deliver an opening speech. The meeting will also be attended by MP Christakis Jiovanis, as member of the Cypriot delegation to the APA.

During the Committee’s meeting, the delegates will discuss draft resolutions concerning linking economic growth with meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which will be promoted for adoption during the next APA plenary in November 2018.

Furthermore, Syllouris will host an official dinner in honour of the delegates on June 26.

The meeting will be attended by parliamentary delegations from 20 member states of the APA, with the total number of delegates exceeding 80.

Apart from Cyprus, the countries to participate in the meeting are Afghanistan, Bahrein, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Maldives, Pakistan, Palestine, People’s Republic of China, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.
