House Speakers of EU Mediterranean countries meet in Strasbourg

The Presidents of the Parliaments of Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Italy, Spain, Portugal and France held a joint meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament that took place at the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg.

During the joint meeting, that was convened after an initiative by the President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikolaos Voutsis, they exchanged views about the challenges that the European countries of the South are faced with, such as immigration and the refugee crisis.

According to an official press release, President of the Cypriot House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris said at the meeting that Europes response to the crisis must be based on peace, solidarity, humanitarian aid and a just sharing of the burden of dealing with the crisis.
