House President to pay an official visit to Tehran

The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, departs on Sunday, 30 October 2016, for Teheran, where he will pay a three-day official visit, at the invitation of the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Ali Ardehir Larijani. Mr Syllouris is accompanied by the Secretary General of the House, Mrs Vassiliki Anastasiadou, the Head of the International Affairs Service, Mrs Evi Stavri-Hadjiyiannis, and the International Relations Officer, Mr Vasilis Kiliaris.

In the framework of his visit, House President will be received by the President of Iran, Dr Hassan Rouhani. He will also meet with his Iranian counterpart, who will also host a dinner in honour of Mr Syllouris and his delegation. The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security, the Chairperson of the Iran-Cyprus Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as other members of the Group, will also be present at the meeting with the Speaker of the Iranian Assembly.

Mr Syllouris will also have separate meetings with the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Mr Ali Shamkhani, the Chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council of Iran, former President of the country, Mr Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the Advisor to the Leader of Iran and President of Expediency Discernment Council’s Center for Strategic Research, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ali Akbar Velayati.

During his stay in Iran, Mr Syllouris will visit sites of historic and cultural interest. He will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, 2 November 2016.
