The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, departs tomorrow, 16 March, for Rome, where he will participate in the Extraordinary Conference of the Speakers of EU Parliaments, taking place on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties. The Conference will take place on 16 and 17 March and will be hosted by the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
Besides its celebratory theme, the Conference will mainly focus on the issue of the future of Europe. It will be addressed, inter alia, by the President of the European Council, Mr Donald Tusk, the President of the European Parliament, Mr Antonio Tajani and the Vice President of the European Commission, Mr Frans Timmermans, as well as by the Prime Minister of Italy, Mr Paolo Gentiloni and the hosts, President of the Senate, Mr Pietro Grasso and President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Ms Laura Boldrini.
During his stay in Rome, Mr Syllouris will also hold contacts on a bilateral level, with separate meetings with his Italian counterparts, Mr Grasso and Ms Boldrini. He will also visit the Vatican, where he will be received by the Secretary of State of the Holy Sea, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Mr Syllouris will then travel to San Marino, where he will participate, on 21 and 22 March, in the deliberations of the 11th Conference of House Presidents of small European states.
