House President sends letter calling for action as regards human rights in Afghanistan

House President Annita Demetriou sent a letter on Friday expressing particular concern about the human rights situation, especially of women and girls in Afghanistan, after the country fell to Taliban control.

The letter was sent to the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Permanent and Non-Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council, to the Presidents of international and regional parliaments, to the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Member States of the European Union and to the Council of Europe, and to the Presidents of Parliaments of countries in the region.

In her letter Demetriou underlined that after the fall of Kabul to the Taliban, the situation in Afghanistan is becoming extremely painful and dangerous, especially for the women and girls.
