House President sends congratulatory letter to the newly-elected US President

The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, sent today a congratulatory letter to the newly-elected President of the United States of America, Mr Donald Trump.

In his letter, Mr Syllouris, inter alia, noted that, as an international power and a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, the USA play prominent role in the international scene, especially as regards issues of violation of the international law and the sense of justice. The Cyprus problem, Mr Syllouris underlines, constitutes a strong example. Highlighting that the negotiations between the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities have entered a crucial phase, Mr Syllouris expresses the hope that the United States will exercise pressure towards Turkey for the achievement of a just and viable solution, which will be beneficial for the entire Cyprus people and will set an example of peace and prosperity in the volatile area of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Moreover, the President of the House of Representatives points out that, on the basis of common values and principles, the USA and the Republic of Cyprus have developed friendly relations and cooperation in the fields of trade, investments, energy and security. We wish to further enhance this cooperation, especially in the light of the increased international interdependence and the global threats against security, primarily of the struggle against terrorism, he says.
