The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received today the Minister of Defence of Lebanon, Mr Yaacoub Riad Sarraf, who is visiting Cyprus at the invitation of this Cypriot counterpart. The Lebanese Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Mr Christoforos Fokaides, and the Ambassador of Lebanon in Cyprus, Dr Youssef Sadaka, and other officials.
At the meeting, Mr Syllouris and Mr Sarraf reviewed the long-standing and excellent relations between Cyprus and Lebanon, as well as the struggles of the two countries for freedom and independence. They also discussed the opportunities for further development of the bilateral relations on the fields of economy, trade, culture, education, as well as the relations of the two counties in parliamentary level.
Mr Syllouris underlined the key role Cyprus could play as the member state of the EU closer to the states of the wider Eastern Mediterranean, as regards the cooperation between the Union and these countries, including Lebanon.
Mr Syllours and Mr Sarraf also exchanged views on international issues, such as the migration and refugee issues and terrorism.
