House President receives the Ambassador of Slovakia

The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received today 21 September 2016 the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Cyprus, Dr Oksana Tomova.

During the meeting, Dr. Tomova briefed Mr Syllouris on the priorities of the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council during the second semester of 2016 by making reference to the activities planned by the Slovak Embassy in Cyprus. The two interlocutors also exchanged views on cooperation and exchanges between the two countries’ parliaments.

Dr. Tomova reaffirmed Slovakia’s readiness to promote further the rapprochement between the two communities in Cyprus by continuing to convene, under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy in Cyprus, the meetings held between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties’ leadership, at the Ledra Palace crossing point.

The President of the House of Representatives thanked the Slovak Ambassador for the contribution of the Slovak Republic and stressed that the solution of the Cyprus problem must be based on international law, principles and values of the EU, notably, the acquis communautaire and to safeguard the human rights of all Cypriots.
