House President receives Ambassador of Finland

The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received today, 24 October 2016, the new Ambassador of Finland to Cyprus, Mr Timo Heino.

During the meeting, the excellent state and parliamentary ties that Cyprus and Finland enjoy and which rest on common principles, were reaffirmed.

Mr Syllouris expressed graditute for the firm stance Finland maintains on the Cyprus problem and for the long-term presence of the Finnish military contingent in UNFICYP.

Mr Heino noted that Finland remains committed to the international rules of law and will continue to provide support in every way possible to the ongoing negotiations aimed at the resolution of the Cyprus problem the soonest possible.

Mr Syllouris and Mr Heino further exchanged views on the political instability in the Eastern Mediterrenean region and on the future prospects of the EU, in light of the multiple challenges facing the Union.
