Ways to expedite compliance with European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decisions on behalf of Council of Europe member states, especially in cases regarding Cyprus, were discussed on Wednesday between President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris and ECHR President Guido Raimondi.
According to a press release issued by the House of Representatives, Raimondi, who is currently visiting Cyprus, referred to the challenges faced by the Court due to the huge volume of appeals is has to deal with.
He also referred to the continuous efforts to enhance cooperation with national authorities and meet the goal of all national legislation being in line with the European Convention on Human Rights.
Syllouris noted that the House of Representatives attributed great importance to ECHR decisions and delivering justice.
Raimondi and Syllouris also exchanged views on ways to expedite compliance with ECHR decisions on behalf of Council of Europe member states, especially in cases regarding Cyprus connected to aspects of the Cyprus problem, including the legitimacy and effectiveness of internal legal remedies.
