House President meets with counterparts of Oman, Armenia and Jordan on IPU sidelines

President of the Cyprus House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris had on Sunday a series of contacts with counterparts from Oman, Armenia and Jordan, on the sidelines of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), taking place in Doha, Qatar.

According to an announcement, Syllouris met with the President of the Consultative Council of Oman, Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal al-Maawali and informed him about his initiative to promote the instruction of Arabic in Cyprus’ education system.

The President of the House of Representatives also referred to his initiative to create a Middle East Cooperation Center in Cyprus, aiming to promote knowledge, ideas, best practices on various fields.

Syllouris met earlier with the President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, confirming the excellent and brotherly relations between the two countries and the willingness to expand them even further. Moreover, the two men talked about the ratification process of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. Mirzoyan also accepted an invitation by Syllouris to visit Cyprus.

The President of the Cyprus House also stressed the close ties between Nicosia and Amman, during his meeting with the President of the Jordanian House of Representatives Atef Al Tarawneh, while referring to the upcoming trilateral meeting between the parliaments of Cyprus, Greece and Jordan.

Tarawneh said that cooperation on the parliamentary level is excellent and underlined the importance of extending this climate of cooperation to peoples level.
