House President discusses deepening of bilateral cooperation during China visit

House President Demetris Syllouris discussed further deepening of the cooperation between Cyprus and China during of his contacts with state officials in Shanghai.

Syllouris, who is paying China a visit, met on Saturday with Speaker of the local parliament of Shanghai Yin Yicui, a Parliament press release says.

The House President was accompanied, as in all his meetings outside Beijing, by Chinese Peoples’ Institute of Foreign Affairs Vice President Liang Jianquan.

Welcoming him, Yin said that close relations between Cyprus and China are based on mutual support in key issues. Willingness for further cooperation in more practical ways was also emphasised.

They also discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, tourism, innovation, technology and education.

According to the announcement, the President of the Parliament also visited the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre where he was briefed on the historical development of the city, the current state of infrastructure and networks, as well as future development plans, through the “Better City, Better Life ” approach.

The city of Guangzhou is the last stop in his China visit, on Sunday.
