House President and Education Minister discuss with Ambassadors the instruction of Arabic in Cyprus

The President of the House of Representatives and the Minister of Education met on Wednesday with Ambassadors from Arabic speaking countries to discuss promoting the instruction of Arabic in Cyprus.

The meeting was an initiative by House President Demetris Syllouris, in the framework of cooperation with parliaments from the broader Middle East region, says an announcement by the House of Representatives.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Education Costas Hambiaouris, as well as Ambassadors and charge daffaires of ten Arabic countries who are resident in Cyprus.

Syllouris said that the aim of the meeting was to exchange views and promote the Arabic language in Cyprus as a tool to further deepen the already excellent relations between countries.

Hambiaouris referred from his part to teaching of arabic language in Cyprus’ public education system and made additional suggestions.

Arab diplomats expressed on their part content for the initiative of House President Sylouris and said they were willing to cooperate and support the initiative with concrete ideas and actions.

All agreed to follow up on the issue, with a view to implementing the proposal, the announcement concludes.
