Health Ministry urges citizens to keep taking self protective measures against COVID

Cyprus’ Health Ministry is urging all citizens to keep on taking all self-protective measures against COVID such as self-distancing and hand sanitation, especially ahead of the Whit Monday public holiday and the beginning of the tourist period.

The Ministry notes that measures should be taken by all also because of the new variants ??.4 and ??.5, which have already caused outbreaks in European countries.

The Ministry advises people to use self-protective masks in crowded places especially all those who are in vulnerable groups and if are going to meet with high-risk citizens.

According to a press release issued Saturday, the two variants were traced in Cyprus, however the positivity rate remains stable in the general population, between 2.74-3.5% for the past two weeks and so is the epidemiological picture on the island.

The Ministry also reminds everyone that if he or she is tested positive for COVID, a 7-day self-isolation period is mandatory. They can exit the isolation on the 5th day only with a negative PCR. All citizens are urged to isolate in case they have symptoms and contact their GP for a free PCR.

A face mask is obligatory for all employees and visitors 12 years old and over at all public and private hospitals and clinics, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers and all closed units as well as in all public transport.

In order to visit a nursing home and closed units, outpatient services, medical centers and rehabilitation centers people who are not vaccinated or have been previously infected, need to show a rapid test done 48 hours prior to the visit or a PCR done 72 hours before.

In order to visit a patient at all public or private clinics and hospitals, visitors need to show a rapid test or PCR done 48 hours before. Only one visitor (over 6 years old) per day is allowed for each patient. More visitors are allowed if there is a permission by the management.
