Harmonized inflation in Cyprus at 2.1% in April

Harmonized inflation in Cyprus stood at 2.1% in April 2017, compared to April 2016, while compared to March of 2017 increased by 1,0%.

According to data by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, for the period between January and April 2017 the Harmonized Price Index increased (HICP) recorded an increase of 1.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Compared to April 2016, the categories with the biggest positive change were Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (13.2 %) and Transport (7.8%).

In comparison to HICP of March 2017, the categories with the largest increase were Transport (5.4%) and Clothing and Footwear (3.0%) while decrease was observed in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages.

For the period between January and April 2017, compared to the corresponding Period of the previous year, the largest positive changes were noted in Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (8.4%) and Transport (4.2 %).

As regards to the economic origin, the largest change compared to the index of April 2016 was observed in Energy with an increase of 16.5 %.

In comparison to the index of the previous month, the largest change was recorded in Services (2.7%) .
