EU Commissioner on enlargement and neighbourhood policy, Johannes Hahn, has said that he shares Cyprus Foreign Minister’s grave concern over Turkeys drilling plans within the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus.
Hahn and Christodoulides had a meeting on Monday in Brussels, on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council.
Commissioner Hahn officially said that he had “a good meeting with the foreign minister of Cyprus, Nikos Christodulides”, noting that he shares “his grave concern over Turkeys drilling plans within the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus”.
Commissioner Hahn reiterated publicly that “the European Council has strongly condemned such actions in the Eastern Mediterranean” and warned that “this position holds”. Finally he called on Turkey for restraint and respect of the Member States sovereign rights.
