Greek FM to meet with Cyprus President and participate in National Council meeting

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will be received on Tuesday by the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and then participate in a meeting of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President comprising parliamentary party leaders.

According to an official announcement issued by the Greek Foreign Ministry, Kotzias will be traveling from Brussels to Nicosia along with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides, following today’s meeting with the personal Envoy of the Secretary-General Matthew Nimetz.

A working lunch of the two Foreign Ministers and their delegations at the Foreign Ministry of the Republic will follow the meeting between Kotzias and Anastasiades and the National Council.

The National Council was also convened and chaired today by President Anastasiades during which its members exchanged views on the state of affairs and the next steps which should be taken following the outcome of the UN-backed talks that took place between June 28-July 7, in Crans-Montana, Switzerland which ended inconclusively. Peace talks aim to reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, under a federal roof.
