Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties pay tribute to Demetris Christofias

The leaders and the representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties who met on Wednesday for their regular meeting at the Ledra Palace, in Nicosia buffer zone, paid tribute to the former President of the Republic of Cyprus and Secretary-General of AKEL, Demetris Christofias, who passed away on Friday at the age of 72.

A joint communique issued after the meeting, that was organised by the Slovak Embassy in Cyprus said that at the beginning of the meeting the participants paid tribute to the long-standing and vital contribution of the former President of the Republic of Cyprus and Secretary-General of AKEL, Demetris Christofias, to the launching of the Ledra Palace meetings and bi-communal dialogue at large, reminding of his life time commitment to the reunification of Cyprus and its people.

Moreover they expressed opinions on the issue proposed by the hosting party, EDEK, which was Unified Electoral Register, One Nation, One People, One Electoral Roll

In addition, they all agreed on common grounds of common struggle of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot people for peace and reunification of Cyprus through a federal solution, the joint communique added

The next regular meeting of the leaders and the representatives of the political parties will be held on Wednesday on 25 September 2019 at the Ledra Palace.
