Great impetus in relations with Saudi Arabia in the recent years, House President says

Relations between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia have had a great impetus in the last years in many sectors, House President Demetris Syllouris has said. Syllouris on Monday received a delegation of the Saudi Arabia � Cyprus Friendship Group of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Cyprus issue as well as bilateral relations and issues of international interest were on the agenda of the meeting.

Syllouris, according to an announcement issued by the Cyprus Parliament, also underlined that the Cyprus Parliament and the Shura Council could further develop their relations.

The members of the delegation reiterated their will to become an Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to various international organizations with the aim of supporting the efforts for the reunification of Cyprus and the solution of the Cyprus problem.

The delegation comprised of the Head Ali A. Al-Nuaim and members Eyas S. Al-Hajery, Zaki A. bin Mahmoud, Saad S. Al-Sabti, Saleh M. Al-Khaliwi, Ali M. Al-Shahrani and Faisal M. Al-Fadhel.

The delegation also met with the Cyprus -Saudi Friendship Group of the Cyprus Parliament, headed by its Chairman Yiorgos Lillikas. Present at the meeting where the MPs Stella Kyriakidou, Adamos Adamou and Angelos Votsis.

The two delegations discussed the Cyprus issue and welcomed the very good relations between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia at all levels.

Lillikas said that the two countries could further strengthen their cooperation in areas such as energy , trade and tourism.

The members of the Saudi Friendship Group reaffirmed their countrys position on the Cyprus issue and expressed their support for a solution in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the international law.

Repeated rounds of UN-backed peace talks have so far failed to lead to a negotiated settlement that would reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
