Government employment rises by an annual 1.3% in April due to temporary hiring

Cyprus government’s total government employment in April this year increased by 687 persons or 1.3% compared with the corresponding month of 2020 reaching 53,337 persons.

 

According to data release by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), on Tuesday, although permanent staff decreased by 1,026 persons or by an annual 3.7% from 27,715 to 26,689 persons, temporary employment increased by 1,773 persons or 10.8% amounting to 18,247 persons.

 

Compared to April 2020 an increase is observed in Education staff (5.3%) and in Security Forces staff (0.2%) while a decrease is observed in Civil Service staff (-0.1%). In all three categories of permanent staff there is a decrease and the highest is equally observed in Civil Service staff and in Education staff (-3.9%).
