Government casual staff increases in January, permanent staff declines

The government labour force increased by 555 persons or 1.1% in January 2018 compared to January 2017 and reached 50.621 persons, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Monday.

Cystat latest figures showed that the casual staff increased by 8.0% and reached 14.895 persons in January 2018 compared to 13.793 persons in January 2017, while the permanent staff decreased by 547 persons or 1.5%.

The Statistical Service added that January saw an increase in all the categories of government labour force compared to January 2017. The largest increase is observed in category Hourly Paid Workers (3,8%) which in the casual staff is increased by 110.4% (370 persons) it said.

Compared to December 2017 all the categories recorded a decrease with the exception of Education which saw an increase by 15 persons or 0.1%. A drop of 1.3% was registered in the category Hourly Paid Workers where the casual staff was down by 109 persons or 13.4%.
