Goverment decree prohibits indoor gatherings of over 75 people until end of March

A Health Ministry decree prohibits more than 75 people to gather or be present in the same indoor area, whether private or public, until March 31, 2020.

The decree, refers in particular to facilities such as theaters, cinemas, restaurants, cafeterias, bars, ice-cream parlours and events halls.

A Health Ministry press release informs that the Minister of Health has issued a decree on the basis of a Cabinet decision taken yesterday in the context of planning and measures to deal with the coronavirus outbreak and in accordance with the relevant legislation.

The decree provides that it is forbidden for over 75 people to gather or be present in the same, single, closed space of public or private use.

It is further clarified that the selection of the number of 75 people was made on the basis of demographic data and epidemiological criteria, following recommendations by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The prohibition is in effect for any indoors, single space for the provision of food or entertainment which is located in a mall, a super-market, a hotel, a hospital, an airport, a military camp, or any other private or public space of mass use without the necessary separation measures which would prevent the gathering of over 75 people for a continuous amount of time in the same area.

It is also noted that the prohibition does not apply in the case where over 75 people have to gather in the same area to perform their usual professional duties and activities such as in offices, companies, or industrial compounds, provided that the basic hygiene rules are upheld or for cases where a quick trip within a space such as malls, super-markets and other spaces where visitors do not remain gathered in the same space for a long period of time.

The decree has been published in the Republic`s Official Gazette.
