President Nikos Christodoulides assured that issues of gender equality are high on the political agenda of his administration and that he is fully aware of the challenges faced by women, therefore the governance program includes specific policies and actions to prevent and combat violence against women, reconciling family and professional life, reducing the pay gap and promoting equal treatment in all areas of life.
In a message on the occasion of today’s Women’s Day, the President noted that the aim is to strengthen and upgrade gender equality issues and in this direction he will proceed immediately with the establishment of the institution of the Commissioner for Gender Equality.
He said that this year’s International Women’s Day is dedicated to innovation and technology for gender equality and within this context and given the low representation of women in innovation and technology, at the initiative of the Commissioner for Gender Equality and in collaboration with the Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation, the government is proceeding to establish 10 scholarships for Cypriot women.
The President notes that today is a day of honor and reflection for the sacrifices and battles that women around the world have given to obtain their rights.
