France to support Cyprus in migrant issue during its EU presidency, Interior Minister pledges

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has said that during the forthcoming French Presidency of the EU, the priority will be to control external borders and also show solidarity towards front line EU member states like Cyprus.

Darmanin was speaking after a meeting on Friday evening with his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Nouris during a one-day visit to the island.

An official press release said the two ministers held discussions with the participation of ministry officials and examined issues of mutual interest with special reference to asylum and migrant issues as well as political protection as France is assuming the EU presidency in January 2022.
