Foreign Minister helds a series of contacts during official visit to Kazakhstan

Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides has held a series of contacts in Kazakhstan in the framework of his official visit to the country.

The Minister, who held a meeting on Wednesday with his counterpart Beibut Atamkulov, signed with him a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of political consultations, aiming at beginning a dialogue on political issues of mutual interest.

The two Ministers reviewed the bilateral relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their willingness to enhance their cooperation in the fields of commerce, investments, energy and tourism. They also discussed about issues of regional and international interest, including the EU / Kazakhstan relations, while Christodoulides briefed his counterpart on the latest developments of the Cyprus issue, the energy prospects in the Eastern Mediterranean and Turkeys illegal actions in Cyprus EEZ.

The Cypriot Minister also held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Alikhan Smailov with whom he signed an agreement for the double taxation avoidance. He also held seperate meetings with the President of the Upper House Dariga Nazarbayeva and the President of the Lower House Nurlan Nigmatulin, with whom he discussed interparliamentary cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues.

Christodoulides visited the Astana International Financial Centre, where he met with Governor Kairat Kelimbetov and discussed with him the experiences of both countries in attracting foreign investments in fields including technology, energy, innovation and investment funds.
